Energy Chat | Georgia Power x Microgrids

Join us for a discussion on microgrids with guest speaker Mr. Sylvester Toe! Hosted by the Energy Club, this event will take place on October 22, 2024, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in Van Leer C457. Mr. Toe will provide a high-level overview of microgrids, including their role in climate resilience and reliability, followed by insights into Georgia Tech’s own microgrid system. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn and ask questions about the future of energy!

Sylvester Toe, P.E. is Chief Engineer for Interconnections Planning at Georgia Power. In this role, he leads engineering and design of generator interconnection projects, microgrids at military bases, and key account customer projects for Southern Company. He also leads development of policy, technical requirements, and regulatory filings for DERs. He is an active member of IEEE, NERC and EPRI committees and working groups focused on generator interconnection.
 
Sylvester obtained a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1987 from the University of Liberia, Liberia, West Africa and a master’s degree in electric power engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY.
 
Prior to joining Georgia Power in 2001 as a Senior Area Planning Engineer, Sylvester worked for National Grid in Massachusetts for 10 years in various departments including division planning, distribution operations, power quality and system protection.
